Nova Scotia Provincial Apprenticeship Accreditation System
In Nova Scotia, the Apprenticeship Training and Skill Development Division, Department of Labour and Advanced Education, has had a formal transfer credit process in place since 1997.
Two main purposes of apprenticeship transfer credit are: to facilitate the granting of credit to prospective apprentices who have successfully completed approved pre-employment programs; and to assure students, employers and the public that training programs meet or exceed established standards
To be approved, a training program should meet the following general criteria:
- The training curriculum should meet or exceed the outcomes identified in the apprenticeship training curriculum.
- The instructors who deliver the training should be qualified/certified in the applicable trade.
- The facilities and equipment used to deliver the training should be appropriate to fully deliver the training.
- The training program should be subject to review on a regular basis.
